Treva Roy

July 12, 1925 — March 21, 2020

Treva Roy, a long-time resident in both Texas and Michigan, died Saturday the 21st of March at the Village of East Harbor, Chesterfield, Michigan. Born in 1925 in Vance Texas to Russell and Winnie Vernor. She grew up in Camp Wood Texas, a place she loved dearly. Treva received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Howard Payne College in 1946, where she also met and married fellow Howard Payne student, Claude Roy in 1944.

Treva loved teaching and spent more than 30 years as an elementary teacher in Texas and Michigan. She was an active member in her local church and spent many years as a Sunday school teacher, pianist and women’s mission leader. Married to Claude Roy for 61 years, Treva supported Claude in his work as a pastor and often provided guidance, leadership and support for their church family and friends.

Treva loved travelling, photography, playing forty-two, watching tennis, letter writing and embroidery. She enjoyed spending time with friends, many of which she had since childhood and college. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grand children..

She is predeceased by her husband (Claude) and survived by her children, Carol (Gerald) Clark, Ron (Carla) Roy, Mike (Dawn) Roy; grandchildren, Joye (Brian) Ambory, Rob (Jessica) Clark, Luke (Susan) Roy, Kyle (Valeria) Roy, Lance (Trina) Roy, Joel (Lauren) Roy and Matt Roy. Thirteen great grand-children, brother, Kelso Vernor, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Calvin Vernor and her parents, Russell and Winnie Vernor.

Memorial gifts may be made to the South Central Baptist Association of Michigan, in honor of Claude and Treva’s 25 years of service to the Association. Please write Claude and Treva Roy Memorial Fund in the memo section and mail to: 1133 East Center Avenue, Portage, MI 49002. Alternatively, donations to the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.

Burial and memorial services will be in Camp Wood, Texas. Details will be determined at a later date.
