Sydney Davenport

March 27, 1935 — October 1, 2020

Uvalde

Sydney was born on March 27, 1935 in Del Rio, Texas to John Henry and Arvie Jones Heard. She was the granddaughter of the late Wyatt Hubbard and Mary Cummings Heard, who were early settlers of Reagan Wells, Dry Frio Canyon. She attended Heard School until 8th grade and then graduated from Uvalde High School in 1952. Sydney married Buck Davenport in 1976 and they worked alongside each other at the Texas Farm Store. She was a hard worker her whole life and lived quietly and simply. She gave back generously to her church and community.

Sydney loved sewing and crafts. She made hundreds of gifts for friends and family. Another love of hers was their place on the Frio River, sitting on the porch birdwatching and people watching. She and Buck also spent many happy days hunting and fishing together at their place in Cline.

Sydney loved her family, especially her Heard family. She kept volumes of family records and pictures. Sydney is survived by her children and spouses Johnna and Louie Beltran of Uvalde, Jerald Corder and Lisa Kirkpatrick of Austin, and Darlyne Stewart of Boerne. Grammy is also survived by grandchildren Caroline and husband Alex Ray, Wyatt Heard Corder, Wes Beltran, and Adele Corder. She is also survived by Buck’s five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, as well as her beloved sister and brother in law, Nell and Bobby Graham.

Sydney was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and brother in law Frances and Richard Nelson, brother in law Bobby Jack Griffin, and stepdaughter Marilyn Weber.

Sydney’s family would like to especially thank the staff of 214 Martin Street and her caregivers Elizabeth Avila, Lupe Ramirez and Paulette Vasquez. They become her bonus family and took incredible care of her.

Pall bearers will be Caroline and Alex Ray, Wyatt Corder, Wes Beltran, Adele Corder, Roxanne and Shawn Lain, Alexis Blue, Grace Stark, Micah Stark, Griffin Crow, Ross Crow, Drew Nelson, Jake Nelson, and John Nelson.
