Suzanne Horner

December 29, 1951 — December 17, 2020

Suzanne Woodward Horner, 68, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother died Thursday, December 17, 2020 due to complications following medical surgery. A grave-side funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 30th at 2:00pm at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde, Texas. Viewing will be held Wednesday, December 30th from 10:00am-12:00pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Funeral Home in Uvalde. The family also plans to have a Celebration of Life service in Port Aransas in Spring 2021.

She was born December 29th, 1951 in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Sue Gamble & William Phillips Woodward. She spent many beloved childhood and adolescent years overseas with her family in Egypt, Greece, and London, England. Suzanne graduated from The American School in Switzerland (Lugano), then attended Baylor University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. While at Baylor she met her husband of 43 years, George Horner Jr. of Uvalde.  George and Suzanne spent most of their married life living in Port Aransas for 33 years. Suzanne went on to have a career as an auditor with the Texas Comptroller. Once Trey and Cheri were school age, she worked at their public school as a computer teacher, librarian volunteer and substitute teacher, to be closer to her kids. Suzanne was also a talented pianist and played the organ for the church for several years. She was also a member of The First Baptist Church for many years.

Suzanne was a passionate supporter for her loved ones. An active and loving parent, her children were her greatest joys. Their early years in Port A were full of sports events, school volunteering, and enjoying coastal living.

Suzanne enjoyed her natural world by observing and photographing animals everywhere she went. She was interested in other cultures and collected art from her family travels. She loved to cook and made it look easy. Her skills as an accountant made her the best organizer of all time. Suzanne taught us through her actions.  Love life to the fullest.  And learn all your life.

Suzanne was a passionate supporter for animal rescue. She was a regular volunteer for the Animal Friends of Port Aransas (TX). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the animal rescue entity of your choice, or Suzanne’s favorite, Animal Friends of Port Aransas (see donation link enclosed below).

Suzanne is survived by her husband, George Horner, Jr. of Uvalde, Texas and children, George “Trey” Horner III and his wife, Shelley, of San Antonio, Texas, and, Cheri Horner Jensen and her wife, Nicole, of Austin, Texas. Two grandchildren, Gabriel George Horner and Isaiah David Horner. Sisters, Wendy Woodward Beard (John) of Jackson, MS, and Gwynne Woodward of Portland, OR, and, brother Phillip Woodward (Dawn) of Sacramento, CA.

Suzanne will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
