Richard Contreras

Richard D. Contreras of Uvalde, Texas passed away on May 15, 2022, at Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 63.

He was born on September 9, 1958, in Uvalde, Texas to Julian Contreras, Sr. and Josefa Diaz.

He married Rachel Sanchez on July 4,1987, in Uvalde, Texas.

Richard was in education for over 25 years.  He worked at Southwest Texas Junior College, Uvalde Junior High, Uvalde High School, and La Pryor ISD.  After retirement he was the P.E. coach at Sacred Heart School.

He is survived by his wife of Uvalde; sisters, Leonor Guzman, Aurora Muniz, Esther Rodriguez and husband, Johnny, Elida Uriegas all of Uvalde and Mary Roman and husband, Carlos of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eduardo Contreras, Isidro Contreras, Julian Contreras, Jr. and Joe Contreras; and nephew, Roy Contreras.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 12:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rene Uriegas, Ruben Uriegas, Johnny Guzman, Michael Contreras, Eddy Contreras, Robert Contreras, Albert Muniz, Fred Muniz, Raymond Contreras, Julian Rodriguez, John Rodriguez, and Ray Roman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Moreno, Manuel Gutierrez, and Faustino Gonzalez.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School.
