Raquel De Leon Garza of Uvalde passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family at the age of 84.  She was born on June 24, 1937, in Uvalde, Texas to Gilberto De Leon Sr. and Rosaura (Benitez) De Leon. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her savior and spent the rest of her life dedicated to living for Christ, family, and friends.

She Married the love of her life, Josue (George) Garza, on December 29, 1961.

Raquel started working hard at an early age along with her siblings at the family’s furniture store. Upon marrying her husband, she sacrificed her time by working countless hours and always putting her immediate family’s interests first.  She also devoted many hours to the family businesses at her husband’s side managing the finances while raising her family at the same time. Her most precious time was being involved in church and family activities. Always the quiet one and never wanting attention, she worked diligently and got things done.

She was the treasurer/secretary of the Uvalde Historical Commission and it was at that time that the fundraising efforts began to remodel The Uvalde Grand Opera House. Raquel was also a lifelong member of Templo Cristiano, participating in the choir and singing special hymns alongside her husband.

Raquel also enjoyed spending time with her sister, Delia Hernandez, drinking many cups of coffee and reminiscing about the old days.

She is survived by her husband George, of Uvalde; son Ronnie and wife Angie, of Uvalde; son Danny and wife Debbie, of Harlingen; Four Grandchildren:  James (Lindsey), Samantha (Daniel), Stephanie, and Luke. Five Great Grandchildren:  Jason, Jaad, Karley, Olivia, and Violet. Siblings, Rev. Daniel De Leon, Rev. Lee De Leon, Delia Hernandez, Viola De Leon, along with numerous nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to thank Letty Victorino for providing excellent care and comforting companionship to Raquel these last 5 months, as well as all the Uvalde Hospice nurses.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilberto and Rosaura; sisters, Rebecca Reyes and Bernice Bazan; and brothers, Gilberto and Orlando De Leon.
