Norma Foust

October 20, 1930 — February 2, 2020

Uvalde

Norma Jean (McMahen) (Turkett) Foust was born on October 20, 1930 in Vernon, Texas. She was one of nine children, born to Dyke and Norma (Cross) McMahen.  She was raised in Vernon, Texas during her school years.

At the age of 13 her father had a sudden death and her mother was ill. She took on the responsibilities of helping raise five younger siblings. She completed high school and was proud being selected most athletic girl in her class. She never lost focus on caring for her brothers and sisters by working to help with family needs.

Norma Jean married Lloyd Turkett, son of Ola Mae and Henry Turkett on April 10, 1948. They did ranch work in Texas and Oklahoma for several years.  Lloyd came to Uvalde with Norma in 1963 where she remained the rest of her life, raising a son and daughter, Rolla and Rayne. On May 24, 1966 she went to work for Texas Industrial Service as an order room supervisor and retired on August 1, 1986. Norma remarried Wilson D. Foust on May 23, 1986 where Uvalde remained their home.

Norma enjoyed and loved working and relaxing at their getaway near Langtry on the Rio Grande River, especially fishing. The enjoyment of outdoors gave many memories to family and friends. She would never throw away her first caught fish, never wasted meat from a deer and always could find a use for it.  The rivers in Uvalde gave a completion in her life, what fun to go the river with “Granny” or “Aunt Jean”. There was always love, fun, laughter and smiles.  She had a love for taking photos, arrowhead hunting and created many memories of fishing and camping with family and friends.

Known as “Granny” and “Aunt Jean”, she was a one of a kind lady.  She would take an extra minute or two to say I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, It’s ok and if tomorrow never comes you will have no regrets about today.

She is survived by her daughter, Rolla Kelley and husband, Richard of Knippa, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Lebo” Turkett of Uvalde; sister, Barbara Graham and husband, Rennie of San Antonio; brother, Bob McMahen of Vernon; grandchildren, Michael Turkett and wife, Shannon, Patrick Turkett, and wife, Bobby K., Rayne Austin Kelley and wife, Laurie, Ra Shea Kelley-Diaz and husband, Beco, Jr. ; 5 great grandchildren, Hayden Turkett, Brendan Turkett, Ainsley Kelley, Kason Kelley, Rylin Jo Turkett; step great grandson, Beco Diaz, III; step daughters, Sherry Shearer and Doug , Peggy Peters and husband, Richard; 4 step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, all from out of state; and longtime friends, Bob Kruger and wife, Phyllis.
