Maxie Wayne Carter Sr. of Sabinal, passed away on August 9, 2022 at his residence at the age of 79.  He was born on July 23, 1943 in Uvalde TX to Clifton Monroe Carter Sr. and Corynne Anna Miles Carter.

He married Carol Ann Pavlik on March 2, 1974 in Houston, TX.

He went to school in Knippa, TX and graduated in 1961.  He attended two years of Southwest Jr. College in Uvalde, TX.   He worked as a rural postal worker for 15 years and prior to that had his own fire extinguisher company.  He was a veteran and served in the Army from June, 1961-February 1969.   He was a member of the Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department serving as a District leader, then Assistant Fire Chief, and Fire Chief.  He was a member of the Leakey Masonic Lodge.  Maxie is the great grandson of John Leakey, whom Leakey, Texas is named.  He is an active member of First United Methodist of Sabinal and a faithful Houston Astros fan.  He was also a huge Sabinal Yellowjackets softball supporter and kept the score at all the home games.

Maxie is survived by his wife, Carol of Sabinal; sons: Wayne (Jennifer) Carter of McDade, Dean (Amy) Carter of Bayside and David Carter of Sabinal; sister, Elsie Andrews of Amarillo, and brother Monroe Carter of Sabinal, and sister-in-law Linda Carter of Round Rock; granddaughters Bailey Reid (companion, Eddie) of San Antonio, Hannah McFarlen (Leelynn) of Corpus Christi, Emmalee York of McDade, Raelynn Carter of Sabinal, and Ellie Carter of Bayside.

Maxie is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Jane Graham, brothers Aubrey Carter, and Archie Carter.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 13th at 12:00 at the First United Methodist of Sabinal affiliated by Dale White.

Pallbearers will be David Pavlik, Jerry Harding, David Ghormley, John Opre, Mike Moore, Tommy Miller, Dean Doiron, and Sid Clary.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist of Sabinal and/or Hummingbird Hospice.
