Mario Albert Rodriguez, beloved son, brother and uncle went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on July 8, 2020 at the age of 50 in Bryan, Texas. Mario was born in Uvalde, Texas on January 17, 1970 to Estella Martinez and the late Mario Alberto Rodriguez. Mario grew up in Uvalde surrounded by his beloved family. Mario was the oldest of 4 siblings, and is survived by his mother Estella Martinez-Castillo, brother Philip Martinez, and his wife Deborah Martinez and nieces Sarah and Lexie Martinez, sister Erika Kelley and nieces Lauren Kenzie Kelley and Kendall Kelley, and nephew Joshua Kelley, brother Jason Joel Castillo and his wife Audrey Alaine Castillo, and nephews Isaiah Drew Castillo and Mason Joel Castillo, and Stepfather Joe Castillo. He is also survived by his brother Charlie Rodriguez and Jason Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews from the Rodriguez family. Mario is preceded in death by his Maternal Grandmother Consuelo Martinez and his Maternal Grandfather Elias Martinez, and his Paternal Grandparents Sarah and Jose Rodriguez and his aunt Sylvia.

Mario graduated from Uvalde High School in 1988 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Mario proudly served his country for four years and was honorably discharged. Mario went on to attend Southwest Texas Junior College where he graduated from the Criminal Justice Program. Mario had a deep passion for his country and for his family. He enjoyed racing, spending time with his family, and was a well-known DJ in the Uvalde, San Antonio and Bryan-College Station area. His close friends knew Mario as DJ Rio, and his family knew him as Tio Bob, no matter the name, Mario was a caring individual who always put others before himself.

The family will welcome visitors at Rushing-Estes Knowles Mortuary on Sunday, July 19, 2020. A rosary will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Martinez, Jason Castillo, Lalo Diaz, Isaiah Castillo, Joshua Kelley and George Romero.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Souquette, Craig Souquette, Mason Castillo, Steven Martinez and Ryan Simms.

*100-person maximum can be accommodated at the funeral chapel at a time for Visitation. Upon entering the funeral home, requirements are that social distancing of 6’ feet is practiced as well as a mask to be worn for every person in the building.

*150-person maximum can be accommodated at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Upon entering the Church, requirements are that social distancing of 6’ feet is practiced as well as a mask to be worn for every person in the building.
