Margarita "Maggie" Del Toro

Margarita “Maggie” F. Del Toro, 73 of Uvalde died on January 6, 2022, surrounded by family members at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

She was born on August 3, 1948, in Uvalde, Texas to Luis F. Del Toro, Jr. and Petra (Flores) Del Toro.

Maggie was raised in La Pryor, Texas. She attended and graduated from La Pryor High School on May of 1967.

She went to work for Martha P. Cruz, the Tax Assessor Collector in Zavala County in Crystal City, Texas in February of 1968. On November 1, 1973, Maggie moved to Uvalde and started working for Mrs. Helen Angermiller as a deputy clerk at the Tax Assessor Collector Office at the Uvalde County Courthouse.  When Mrs. Angermiller retired, Maggie ran for office and on January 1, 1993, she became the Uvalde County Tax Assessor Collector.  She held that position until December 31, 2016.

At the time of her employment, she also went to college at night to further her education.  She graduated on December of 1997 with an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management degree from Southwest Texas Junior College.

Maggie’s favorite past time included listening to Tejano Music, word search puzzles, paint by number, cooking, collecting recipes, sewing, and traveling.

Maggie is survived by her sister and caregiver, Maria Del Toro of Uvalde, Texas, sisters, Marta Del Toro of Austin, Texas and Blanca E. Saldivar and husband, Rogelio of La Pryor, Texas; nephew, Greg Del Toro and wife, Ashely and great nephew, Emmanuel Del Toro; nephew, Erik Del Toro and wife, Rosario and great nieces, Alina Del Toro, Aliya Del Toro and Eliana Del Toro and great nephew, Erik Luis Del Toro; sister-in-law, Maria Luisa Del Toro all of La Pryor, Texas, and numerous cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and two brother, Juan Luis Del Toro and Javier Del Toro; and Max, her chihuahua dog.

Visitation will begin on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.  A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in La Pryor, Texas. Interment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery in La Pryor, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Greg Del Toro, Erik Del Toro, Serapio “Sonny” Flores, Rogelio Saldivar, Hector Lara, and Roberto Flores.

Per the family request, everyone must wear a mask if attending the funeral.
