Lillian Herrington

May 20, 1932 — March 17, 2020

Uvalde

Lillian May Elisk Herrington of Uvalde passed away peacefully on March 17, 2020, at the age of 87.  Lillian was born May 20, 1932 in Kingsville, Texas to Marie Anna and Charles A. Elsik. Lillian was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman; as well as her parents; brothers, Charles A. Elsik and Harry A. Elsik; sister, Marie Evelyn Elsik McMurrey; and grandsons, Darrell Parker Ross and Ty Herrington Solomon.

After graduating from Henrietta M. King High School, Lillian worked and attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville where she met and later married Herman D. Herrington of Alice to whom she was married for 65 years.

Lillian was very active in her husband’s career as the Agricultural teacher in the school districts of Ben Bolt and Premont. Lillian was not only a mother, but a friend and mentor to many.  As she raised her children she became an avid gardener, bird expert, and a wealth of knowledge ranging from preserving peaches to mending a broken wing. Memories of family time playing Wheel of Fortune will be treasured by not only her children but her grandchildren; as everyone would watch her solve the clue with only a turn of a few letters. She took great pleasure in family activities; stock shows, sports, hunting and fishing as well as caring for injured and sick animals, domestic and wild.

Lillian and Herman left South Texas moving to Uvalde to reside with Jeanne and Mike on the Cuatro Semanas Ranch.  Lillian continued to be the hub of the family; her home always the place to gather for holidays and birthdays.  She loved filling her home not only with her own grandchildren and great grandchildren, but friends’ children as well.

Lillian is survived by her four daughters: Gwen (Ernest) Havner of Kerrville; Cathy (Leroy) Richter of Alice; Sherry (Shorty) Smith of Uvalde; and, Jeanne (Mike) Weeks of Uvalde.  She is also survived by: three grandsons, Tate (Haley) Weeks of Premont, Colin Richter of Alice, Logan Weeks of Uvalde; one granddaughter, Mika (Brooks) Heitz of Big Wells; and one step granddaughter, Kelly Bazié of Fort Stockton.  Lillian had two great grandchildren; Hayes Weeks of Premont, Tilden Heitz of Big Wells; and two step great grandchildren, Jude and Zara Bazié of Fort Stockton.

The family would like to express their deepest love and appreciation to Lillian’s caregivers, Sylvia Gonzales and Lupe Cruz.

A celebration of life will be held at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 24th.  The family request in lieu of flowers, donation can be made to St. Jude Hospital or American Cancer Society.
