Uvalde

Joyce Elizabeth (Harkey) Winn of Uvalde passed away on May 2, 2020 at home with family at the age of 69.  She was born on January 26, 1951 in Crystal City to Annette (Carr) and Harold Harkey, Jr.

Joyce graduated from Crystal City High School and Southwest Texas State College before receiving a Master's Degree from Sul Ross State University.

She married Pete Winn on November 23, 1973 and was a devoted wife of over 46 years.

Joyce was a daughter, a mother, a wife, a granny, a student, a teacher, and a friend to all.  Her first and last job out of college was as a teacher at Knippa High School.  She loved her students and the chance to spread education, and continued her career as a fighting Knippa Rockcrusher for 40 years.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed going fishing at the lake and spending time with her kids and grandchildren on the Nueces River.  She had many fine adventures over the years with her group of friends on yearly trips to the beaches of Texas and going with her family to the coast of Oregon and California, visiting Virginia, and other locations.  She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and quilting for her family.  Over the years, she was Pete's favorite ranch hand, caregiver, protector, and best friend.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Dr. Pete Winn of Uvalde; daughter, Dr. Melissa Winn Angonia and husband, Dominic of Bryan, TX; son, Ron Winn and wife Audra of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Clayton and Jacob Winn; mother, Annette Harkey; and brother, Ronald Martin "Marty" Harkey, both of Crystal City.  She was preceded in death by her father, Harold "Sonny" Harkey, Jr.; and two brothers, Harold "Hal" Harkey III and Wayne King Harkey.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Montell Cemetery.  Rev. Steve Peyton and Rev. Nathan Lafrenz will officiate.
