It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jose S. Gonzales and Seferina C. Gonzales.  Through 63 years of marriage, true to their heart and love they both passed within 48 hours of each other.

Jose S Gonzales was the son of deceased Guadalupe and Andrea Gonzales.  He was born on March 24th, 1937 in Sabinal, Texas.  Jose had 7 siblings (Alicia Sanchez, Maria Juarez, Rosalinda Rodriguez, Ermandina De La Pena, Roy Gonzales, Esmeraldo Gonzales and Guadalupe Alvarado(D).

Seferina C Gonzales was the daughter of deceased Jose C Contreras and Maria Conception Contreras.  She was born on August 26th, 1933 in Sabinal, Texas.  Seferina had 9 siblings (Lula Reyes, Isabel Contreras, Mauricio Contreras, Linda Gonzales, Santiago Contreras, Olivia Barroso, Guadalupe “Lupio” Contreras, Elias Contreras (D) and Joe Contreras (D).

There are very few who get to experience a life and love like Jose and Seferina.  As best friends, partners, and soulmates their love was pure, loyal, kind and never ending. They were young when they met as field workers and felt a bond instantly.  Shortly after they had their first dance and after holding each other they instantly fell in love.

Jose and Seferina married on April 26th of 1957.  Jose continued working in agriculture as a ranch hand, sheep shearer and later he became known for his of world class fighting roosters.  With this additional income, Jose was determined that Seferina stay at home and raise their family and what a wonderful job she did.  While Jose was earning a hard day’s wage, Seferina had the difficult job of tending to the house and raising their 7 children.

They are survived by Sylvia Gonzales (Sabinal, TX), Andrea and spouse Armando Olivarez  (Ardmore, Oklahoma), Jose Gonzales Jr. and spouse Priscilla Gonzales (Hondo, Texas), Rosa and spouse Ernest Martinez (Bandera, Texas), Anita and spouse Arnulfo Campos (Comfort, Texas), Rebecca and spouse Antonio Ortega (Hondo, Texas) and Sofia and spouse Tim Bennett (Eastvale, California).

They left their legacy of 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers for Seferina Gonzales will be Michael Campos, Ruben Campos, Ernie Martinez, Chris Martinez, Joseph Ortega, John Ortega, and Andrew King.

Pallbearers for Jose Gonzales will be Ernest Martinez, Arnulfo Campos, Antonio Ortega, Tim Bennett, Jason Ortiz, and Cody Blake.

Visitation will begin on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sabinal.  Interment will follow at Sabinal Cemetery.
