Frank L. Ortega

Francisco “Frank” Lopez Ortega, April 17, 1939, of Uvalde, formerly of D’Hanis, Texas passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on March 8, 2023.

He was born to Reyes and Maria (Lopez) Ortega of Uvalde, Texas.

He moved to Big Spring, Texas with his family in 1976 and returned to his hometown of Uvalde, Texas in 2009. He was an educator for 30 years and a veteran of the US Army. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Delia Vasquez Ortega of Uvalde; daughter, Sandra O. Parra and partner, Gerardo De La Garza of Uvalde, Texas; granddaughter, Gabriela M. Parra and partner, John Craig of San Antonio, Texas; special friend, Elida Uriegas of Uvalde, Texas; and his dear close cousin, Mary Alice Saiz of Uvalde.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeronimo “Jerry” Ortega; and daughter, Brenda Ortega.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 2 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.  A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Salome Ortega, John Craig, Elias Gutierrez, Gerardo De La Garza, Sergio Porras and Hector Olivarez.
