David Lamascus

March 14, 1956 — January 24, 2020

Uvalde

David Keith LaMascus went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, January 24, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to Kenneth and Sylvia LaMascus on March 14, 1956 in Nocona, Texas. David graduated from Uvalde High School in 1974 and then attended the Southwest Texas Junior College. He went on to work as the holography technician at General Tire in Uvalde. He married Becky Jo on December 29, 1979 in Uvalde, Texas and they recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. The couple continued to reside in Uvalde until he was hired by the U.S. Border Patrol in 1982, entering BP Class 149 at his duty station in Brackettville, Texas. After two years he received a transfer to Uvalde where he continued to work his way up the ranks until his retirement on Sept. 1, 2012 as Patrol Agent in Charge of the Uvalde Border Patrol station. During these years, David and Becky had a daughter, Kimberly Nicole, who resides in Uvalde.

Throughout his life, David was an avid outdoorsman – hunting, fishing, shooting firearms, running everyday and training his dogs for hunt trials and bird hunts. Shooting rifles, shotguns and pistols was something he really enjoyed. His brothers, Randy and Steve, would enter competitions and shoot against him but it was rare that David lost to them. David participated in shotgun competitions in the Texas Police Games, Texas State Skeet and World Skeet Championships, winning many awards and becoming a multi-time All American skeet shooter. He was a devoted runner and was recognized as such by many people all over Uvalde. David, Becky and Kimberly have always been dog lovers. They've had dog breeds of all kinds, but in Dave's later years he decided to get into training dogs for dog trial competitions. He just LOVED it, traveling in Texas, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri to competitions with his dogs.

He became a Christian at an early age and he continued that Christian life by becoming a Sunday school class teacher, helping with Awanas and then becoming a deacon of the church.

David is survived by his wife and daughter, his father, Kenneth of Uvalde, brothers, Steven (Kandace) of Brackettville, Texas and Randy (Marsha) of Middleton, Idaho, and a sister, Lisa LaMascus of Uvalde. Also surviving him are nieces Lindy (David) Orozco of Deer Park, Washington; Allison (Mathias) Weinzierl of Shakopee, Minnesota; nephews, Clint (Shanna) Hester of Boise, Idaho and Aaron (Amy) Hester of Nampa, Idaho, great niece, Tristin Taylor, great nephew, Mitchell Taylor as well as other great nieces and nephews.
