David Irvin Fowler, 71, passed away in Hondo, Texas on March 7, 2020 due to complications following stroke symptoms.

David was born July 29, 1948 in San Antonio, TX to Irvin Malcolm and Elizabeth Jane Fowler.  He was a 1966 graduate of Sabinal High School.  He then attended Southwest Texas Junior College where he graduated with an Associate in Arts in May of 1968.  He continued his education at Texas State Technical Institute (now College) where he earned his Associate in Applied Science with a concentration in Water Utility Technology in August 1970 and held multiple certifications in water treatment technologies.  David worked for various municipalities in Southeast and Central Texas, retiring from the City of Hondo, TX in August of 2010.  He served as a member of the Texas Water Utilities Association Winter Garden District for just over 40 years.  He was also an active Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Sabinal.

David will be remembered for his welcoming smile and willingness to always extend his hand for a friendly handshake or open his arms for a heartfelt hug.  He will also be remembered for the love of his wife, family, and his beloved Houston Astros. David met his wife, Bonnie as the best man of his friend’s wedding and her a bridesmaid to the bride in May of 1969.  David and Bonnie were married on June 13, 1970.

David is survived by his spouse, Bonnie Jo of Sabinal, son Charles David Fowler and wife Paige Alexis of Houston, and his three grandchildren McKenzie Brooks Fowler, Brady Lewis Fowler, and Alexis Elizabeth Fowler; sister Betty Jo Harris of Sabinal, niece Julie Aelvoet of San Antonio as well as niece Jeanie Finch and husband John Finch of Denton and their families.  He was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother-in-law Raymond L. Harris.

Services will be held at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Funeral Home in Sabinal, TX located at 410 W. Cullins Ave at 2 p.m.  Rev. Monty Benson will officiate the services. Pallbearers: Brady Fowler, Robert “BJ” Cone, Beau West, Coley Salge, John Finch, and Greyson Melton.  Honorary pallbearers: Alan Salge, Joe Redus, Tommy Foster, Ronnie Rushing, Sammy Horton, and Gary Abernathy.

Following the services, burial will be at the Sabinal Cemetery.
