Yolanda J. Lopez of Uvalde passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 in San Antonio, surrounded by her husband and children.
Yolanda was born on December 21, 1940 in Crystal City, Texas to Reynaldo and Maria (Valero) Jimenez. She graduated from Crystal City High School and went on to earn degrees in medical technology and chemistry from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. Thereafter, she completed a successful 42 year long carrier as a certified medical technologist. After retirement, Yolanda worked as a volunteer in several capacities in Uvalde, including volunteering at the El Progreso Memorial Library, and also serving as certified catechism teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Throughout her life, Yolanda was a loving mother and wife, hard-working, creative and devoted to her faith. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and cats. One of her most passionate hobbies was genealogy, of which she became an expert, tracing her own Jimenez family roots back to the 1500s.
Thanks to the doctors and nurses on staff at the Methodist Metropolitan Hospital in San Antonio for their devoted care of Yolanda in her final days.
Yolanda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Reyes Lopez of Uvalde, their children, son Ray and his wife Stella of San Antonio, daughters, Marima Hernandez and husband Enrique of Brownsville, Nora Ann Lopez of Austin and Yolanda E. Villalobos of San Antonio; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Dilia Marie Lopez, her parents, her elder sister, Eliza De Leon, her younger brother, Reynaldo Jimenez.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 03, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Monday, February 04, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, 220 S. Getty Street Uvalde, Texas. A rosary will be recited on Sunday and Monday at 7:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Roman Church, 408 Fort Clark Road, Uvalde, Texas. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, 1300 West Main Street, Uvalde, Texas, with a reception to follow at a location to be announced.
