William S. Moore

William S. Moore (Billy) of Utopia passed away January 17, 2024 at the age of 80.

Billy was born February 10, 1943 in Winters, Texas, to Jefferson H. Moore and Fairye B. McCaughan Moore.

Billy and his mother lived in Winters with his maternal grandparents while his father served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during WWII. From a young age, Billy developed a love of horses and a work ethic that lasted a lifetime. After the war his family lived in San Antonio. In the 60’s Billy served in the United States Marine Corps, then served on the San Antonio Fire department. Billy craved small town living and soon left the fire department to move to Utopia where he then became a brand inspector for Southwest Texas Cattle Ranchers Association. In the 80’s he started a family and became the Foreman of Utopia Hill Ranch. 

Billy’s presence in the Hill Country was known by many, he was a true cowboy with a kind and gentle heart who helped others anytime he could. While living in Utopia, he served on the Utopia ISD School Board, Utopia Park Board, Utopia Volunteer Fire Department, along with volunteering his time for other various community events over the years. His love for rodeo, calf roping, animals, nature, and ranching was the core of who he was. He loved to make others laugh and his big smile was contagious. Billys most cherished time was being able spend time with his family and grandchildren riding around the ranch or grabbing ice cream from the General Store. 

Billy is survived by daughter Caryn E. Jones and husband Hubert of Florida, and grandsons David Jones and Michael Jones.  He is also survived by son Jeffrey B. Moore and wife Robin of Utopia, and granddaughters Bailey Moore, Bridget Moore and Bristol Moore. Other survivors are sisters Mary Sue Spiess and husband Lee , and Rebecca Yarbrough (Melvin).

A celebration of Billy's life will be held February 10, 2024 at 10a.m. at Utopia Hill Ranch. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Utopia EMS.
