Wanda “Lois” Bridges of Sabinal, Texas, passed away on March 31, 2026 at the age of 88. She was born February 15, 1938 in Kiowa, Oklahoma to Condie “Lee” and Opal (Stitz) Hammer.
Lois was a devout Christian who put her faith in everything she did. She worked as an Electrocardiogram Technician for a number of years along with achieving a lifelong ambition of being a restaurant entrepreneur. After retirement she spent many years still in the kitchen, scouring through her many magazines for recipes just to challenge herself. If she wasn’t in the kitchen, you’d find her quilting, every block cut and stitched by her own hands, securing the batting herself, creating a quilt by sandwiching it all between the top and bottom, carrying on a long family tradition her mother passed on to her.
She is survived by two sons, Allen “Brad” Bridges (Lea-Vi) of Sabinal, TX., Kenneth Bridges (Theresa) of Temple, TX., and a step-daughter Kathy Evans (Larry) of Ennis, TX; brothers Johnie Hammer (Dell) of Kiowa, OK., Steve Hammer (Sue) of Arlington TX., Hayden Hammer (Mary) of Kemp, TX., Ray Hammer (Pam) of Mansfield, TX.; sister Phyllis Cooper (Leroy) of Garvin, OK; one grandson Allen “AJ” Bridges of San Angelo, TX along with many step-grand children, great step-grand children, and several nieces, nephews, and greats.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, brother Millard “Popeye” Hammer, and daughter Wanda Lynn Chandler.
The family will have a private memorial to reflect on and share the cherished memories Lois left behind.
