Vella Ondene Gum

Vella Ondene Gum of Brackettville, passed away on June 12, 2026, at Silver Pines Nursing & Rehabilitation in Bastrop.

Vella was born on July 19, 1926, in Guymon, Oklahoma to Vennie Venita (Robinson) and Thomas Henderson Sledge.

She married Elmer Leslie Gum, Jr., on May 10, 1948, in Amarillo, Texas.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Alan Gum of Houston and Charles Dale Gum of Cedar Creek; brother, Fred Sledge of Guymon, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Nathan Gum, eric Gum, Jessica Gum and Jordan Gum; and two great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter; two sisters; and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held on June 16, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Church of Christ in Brackettville.

Interment will follow at Brackettville Cemetery.
