Valente Mendoza

Valente T. Mendoza of Uvalde passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Texsan Heart Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 84. Mr. Mendoza was born August 20, 1932 in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Adeliado and Juanita (Torres) Mendoza. He married Herlinda Martinez in Villa de la Paz, San Luis, Potosi on January 1, 1956.
Mr. Mendoza is survived by his wife, of 60 years, of Uvalde; three daughters, Leticia Mendoza Carreon and husband, Miguel, Dora Mendoza and Gloria Gonzales and husband, Juan, all of Uvalde; two sons, Carlos Mendoza and Valente Mendoza both of Uvalde; step children, Mark Sotello and Laura Sotello both of Uvalde; two sisters, Luz Luera of McAllen, Texas and Macrina Garate of Monte Alto, Texas; two brothers, Gregorio Mendoza of Weslaco, Texas and Francisco Mendoza of Uvalde; as well as seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great- great granddaughters. Mr. Mendoza was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Martin Mendoza.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday and Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Miguel Carreon, Jr., Vale Carreon, Rickey Carreon, Gilbert Arredondo, Juan D. Gonzales, Jr., Carlos "CJ" Mendoza, Christopher Mendoza, Valeria Mendoza.
