Thurman Willis Shackleford passed peacefully at home
In Uvalde, Texas, on August 27, 2020, at the age of 95.
Thurman was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Gotebo, OK, to
Dorsey and Rosie (Dunkin) Shackleford. He grew up in
SE Oklahoma, where he met and married Norma Jean
Miller in 1946, in Tishomingo, OK. In 1957, they moved
with their three children to Uvalde, Texas to continue his
career with the Fish and Wildlife Service. He worked and
lived at the Uvalde Nat. Fish Hatchery until his retirement
In 1984. Thurman was a faithful member of the Getty St.
Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of
72 years in March, 2019. Also preceding him in death were
brothers Alfred Shackleford and Dale Shackleford and sister
Delphine Miller, all of OK.
Thurman is survived by sons Bob (Anne) Shackleford of
Uvalde, Ronnie (Renee) Shackleford of Mill Creek, OK,
daughter Elizabeth (Derk) Barton of Uvalde, grandchildren
and great grandchildren: Ingrid (Doug) Postert and children
Nicholas, Katrianna, Breanna and Jake; Brad Shackleford;
Mark (Terry Jo) Shackleford and children Owen, Katherine
and Tyson; Bryan Shackleford; Mindy (James) Butler and
Children Deirdre and Emma; Michael (Heather) Barton; Britta
(Bren) Hildebrand and children Bailey, Morgan and Bella; and
Monty (Rachel) Barton. Also surviving are brothers Evertt
(Octavia) Shackleford, J. R. Shackleford and sister Wanza
Caraway, all of Oklahoma.
There will be a graveside service in Troy, Oklahoma, at
10:30a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, where he will then
be laid to rest beside his wife.
