Hattie Sue Carper Capt of Uvalde, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born on August 23, 1934, in Uvalde, Texas, to Harriet Stockley and Joseph William Carper.

A lifelong Uvaldean, Sue attended Uvalde High School, graduating in 1951. Sue went on to attend Southwestern University at Georgetown, where she graduated as valedictorian with a degree in business and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After dating Louis Capt in high school and all through college, they married at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in 1954.

A generous Philanthropist, Sue and her husband Louis were keen supporters of St. Philip’s Church and School and El Progreso Memorial Library, as well as many other community endeavors. They were also patrons of Texas A&M University, where they attended games and events with their family.

An avid and extremely knowledgeable antiquer, Sue spent many happy years traveling all over the world, collecting and selling curiosities. A member of the Garden Club, Sue also had a love of plants and enjoyed learning about, cultivating, and sharing her flowers with family and friends.

Her greatest joy of all was her family. Sue and Louis had a wonderful marriage of 64 years, and three children Katy, Carper, and Courtenay. Affectionately known as “SuSu” by her fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, she will be greatly missed by them all.
