Shirley Graves

Shirley Browder Graves died Jan. 27 in a San Antonio hospital.  She was born October 24, 1934, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
to Nona Mae (Honey) and Bennett Browder.
The family moved to Uvalde when Shirley was seven.  She was graduated from Uvalde High School in 1953, and attended Texas University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
She married her high school sweetheart William (Bill) Joe Graves on August 6, 1955. He preceded her in death in 20O8;
Shirley was a devoted member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church where she was active in Daughters of the King.  In the 1960’s, Shirley worked with other church members in successfully founding St. Philip’s Episcopal Day School.  She passionately continued her support of the school, which both her children and grandchildren attended, until her death.
She is survived by two daughters;  Kim and husband Tony Rock of Concan, and Ginga and Dave Golson of New Braunfels, and son Browder and Shanna Graves of Uvalde.
Grandchildren A. J. Rock and wife Suzanne Rozier of Austin, Bennett Rock and wife Jessamyn of Manhattan, Kansas, Margaret Rock and partner Ben McGrath of Edmonton, Canada, and Parker Golson of Austin.  Also Kyle and Tamara Golson , Benjamin and Taylor Golson and Jamie and  Robert Moore, all of Houston.
Great grandchildren Theodore and Winston Rock; Noah, Cameron, Hazel and Rosalie Golson, and Bailey, Makenna and Oliver Moore.
Shirley also touched the lives of her godchildren and a veritable host of friends, all of whom will miss her, her enthusiasm for life and her unfailing support in good and tough times.
Her loyalty to family. friends, the Uvalde Coyotes  and the Texas Longhorns was legendary.
Shirley brightened her corner of the world and left a lasting footprint on the hearts of those who knew and loved
her.
Memorials in her honor may be made to both St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and the day school.


A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 3:30 PM at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 343 N. Getty St., Uvalde, TX 78801

Interment will follow at Uvalde Cemetery.
