Obituary

Robert D. Ballard passed away peacefully at home in Uvalde on July 23, 2026, at the age of 99, with his son, Patrick, by his side.

Born on May 28, 1927, in Murphysboro, Illinois, Robert was the son of Everett and Helen Ballard.

Robert proudly served his country in both the United States Navy during World War II and the United States Air Force during the Korean War, completing a total of 19 years of military service. While stationed in Ottawa, Canada, with the Air Force, he met Jean A. Beckett. They married in 1961 and welcomed their son, Patrick. Jean preceded Robert in death in 2015.

Robert is survived by his son, Patrick; granddaughters Andrea (Kyle) and Laura (Anthony); and great-grandchildren Kaleb, Kaden, and Arlee. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou and Ruth Ann, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Betty and Joan.

A proud veteran, Robert enjoyed an active and fulfilling life. He was an avid golfer, took great pride in maintaining his yard, and remained committed to daily exercise throughout his life. He participated in local Veterans Day celebrations and was a member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Over the years, he especially cherished golfing with friends including Slim, Bunky, Bill, Gerry, and JJ.

Robert also treasured his daily coffee visits with Gerry and enjoyed spending time with his neighbors. His dedication to caring for his lawn was remarkable, and he continued mowing it himself until just a few months before his passing.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held at a later date.
