Raul E. Zamora

Raul E. Zamora, Jr. of Uvalde, Texas passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born on August 6, 1952, in Uvalde to Rosa Espadas (Zamora) and Raul T. Zamora. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rebecca E. Zamora. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Aurora Zamora, of Uvalde; sons Raul E. Zamora III, and wife, Nancy of San Antonio, grandchildren Joaquin and Gabriel; and Rene Zamora of Uvalde; sisters Elida E. Zamora of Uvalde and Annabelle E. Gomez of Del Rio; and numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Raul was an altar boy and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. At age 12, he lost his father which required the family to begin working to help support each other. He started by sweeping office buildings throughout town. In high school he worked at Firestone and picketed during the 1970 walkout. During his time at Firestone, he learned the value of education and went back to school. He attended SWTJC and earned his BBA and MBA at Sul Ross while working at the Uvalde Bank as a teller and moving up to a loan officer. He would spend over 35 years in the banking industry in Uvalde and Eagle Pass. In 2006, he was awarded the Business Advocate of the Year by the Eagle Pass Business Journal. In between, he started the Small Business Development Center in Uvalde through the Middle Rio Grande Development Council from a grant by the U.S. Small Business Administration. After retiring from banking, he began his next chapter in 2015 by becoming a realtor with Lantana Realty in Uvalde.Raul believed strongly in giving back to the communities where he lived and worked. He was a member of and past chair of Uvalde Roadrunners, Uvalde Kiwanis Club, and Eagle Pass Lions Club. He was also a baseball coach for his son’s little league teams and others. In 1980, he was appointed to a life-term position on the Board of Directors for Uvalde Memorial Hospital – a term he served for 46 years until his passing. Making healthcare available to Uvalde and the surrounding areas was of utmost importance to him. He was accepted into the Texas Trustees Board of Directors and was past chair in 2024. He was a certified healthcare trustee – a volunteer program designed to help hospital board members strengthen their governance knowledge and leadership skills. In June 2026, Uvalde Memorial Hospital received the 2026 Governance Achievement Award.Pallbearers will be Adam Apolinar, Carlos Gregorio, Ruben Mazuka, Javier Martinez, and Jesse Martinez Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Directors for Uvalde Memorial Hospital.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
