With a steady heart and deep love for his family, we honor the life of Raul Ricardo Estrada, Sr., who passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on February 22, 2026 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

On November 14, 1970, he married the love of his life, Maria Luz Aguilar. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on faith, perseverance, and unwavering commitment. Together they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and resilience.
Raul proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran, a chapter of his life that reflected his courage and sense of duty. After his military service, he devoted himself to his community in Uvalde, Texas, where he owned and operated several restaurants. Through his work, he not only built a livelihood but also created gathering places where friendships were formed and memories were made. Professionally, he retired after 20 years as the Uvalde County Veteran’s Service Officer. In addition, he also served on the board of Community Health Development, Inc. for many years.
Above all else, Raul was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Maria Luz of Uvalde, Texas; and their four children: Rosie Turk and husband Richard of Cibolo, Texas; Raul “Jay” and wife Claudia of San Antonio, Texas; Laura Ortega and husband Jose of San Antonio, Texas; and Carla Montes and husband Marcos of Cibolo, Texas. They blessed Raul with eleven grandchildren, who were his greatest pride and joy, and his legacy lives on through them. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, who shared in the stories and seasons of his life: Teodoro “Mando” Rodriguez of Uvalde, Texas; Maria Castellon of San Antonio, Texas; and Anthony Estrada of Austin, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Jesus V. Garcia, Henrietta V. Estrada, Frances Solis, and Juan Estrada.
The bond of family was a steady thread throughout Raul’s life, and he carried both the presence and memory of his brothers and sisters with enduring love.Raul will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, and the steadfast love he gave so freely to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the values he instilled and the memories he created will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew him.
