Ramon "Sonny" Garcia

Ramon “Sonny” Garcia of Uvalde passed away on June 6, 2023, at his residence at the age of 64.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.and a funeral at 3 p.m. on June 14, 2023, at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. 

He was born on July 23, 1958, in Uvalde to Rosita (Aguilar) and Ramon Garcia, Sr.

He married Jennifer Walther in Uvalde on January 10, 1987.

Sonny was a devoted husband of 36 years and amazing father and grandpa. He was a teacher with UCISD for 25 years. He was  known as Mr. Gar where he touched many lives. As a die hard life long Dallas Cowboy fan, he never missed a game.  Throughout his high school years, he was known as a proud member of the Coyote band as their drummer.  He continued his musical passion by playing in numerous bands throughout the years and later as a DJ.  

He is survived by his wife of 36 years of Uvalde; daughter, Lauren Michelle Smith and husband, Brandon of San Antonio; son, Nathan Ray Garcia of Austin; his father, Ramon Garcia Sr and wife Diane; sister, Gema Hernandez and husband, Moses of Uvalde; grandson, Brett Smith of San Antonio; Brother in law Chris Walther and wife Kim and his favorite niece Caila Walther of Austin.  

He is preceded in death by his mother and mother-in-law, Jeanette Walther. 

Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.  Burial will take place at Hillcrest cemetery at a later date
