Rafael R. Vera, Jr.

Rafael R. Vera Jr., 72, of Uvalde passed away on November 24, 2023, surrounded by his family at his residence.

He was born on May 13, 1951, in La Pryor, to Rosa (Roman) and Rafael Vera.

He married Rosie Alba Gutierrez on March 25, 1985.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years of Uvalde; daughter, Elsie Vera Sanchez and husband Jason of Uvalde; two sons, Rafael Vera III and wife Belinda Guzman and Johnny Joe Vera and wife Michelle all of Uvalde; two step-daughters, Fema Jamieson and wife Zan and Susie Arredondo and husband Francisco Blanco all of Uvalde; sister, Romanita Vera Rodriguez of Waco; eleven grandchildren, Orlando Garcia, Stefanie Garcia, Yzabella Sanchez, Klariza Sanchez, Alexis Vera, Desiree Vera, Monica Jo Vera, Alanna Marie Garza, Ayden Jean Jamieson, Adison Cruz and Pete Arredondo, II: thirteen great grandchildren Kaylynn Garcia, Anissa Garcia, Zenaiah Garcia, Angelica Perez, J’lynn Rios, Catalina Aguilar, Nicolas Aguilar,  Noah Aguilar, Paisley Grace Garza, Jakob Dean Flores Bailey Jean Garza, Alex Arredondo, and Azriel Arredondo; niece, Amalia Rodriguez; two nephews, Rene Rodriguez and Johnny Rodriguez.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Ella Jean Silva; stepson, Alejandro Guerra; step-granddaughter, Kendra Delgado and step-great grandson, Ethan Rios.

Visitation will begin on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Barboza, David Sandoval, David Polanco, Jerry Gonzales, Jason Sanchez, Leonel Aguilar, Brandon McCutchen, Lupe Solis, Cruz Santos, Leroy Santos, Rene Rodriguez, and Orlando Garcia.
