Ofelia Martinez

Our beloved Ofelia Vasquez Martinez born December 5, 1923, left us on December 20, 2020 to be with her parents, Catarino and Maria Refugia Martinez, brothers Arnulfo, Fernando and sisters, Dora Granado, and Maria Refugia Cunningham and her niece Elizabeth Victoria Rodriguez Mireles. She left peacefully in her sleep with her sister Victoria Rodriguez and niece Elsa Rodriguez Stang by her side. She is also survived by her brother Heliodoro (Lio) Martinez, as well numerous nieces and nephews, whom she often lovingly cared for like her own children. She never married or had any children, but she played a big part in raising many children. Her love for her family was shown by the annual hosting of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners as well as always ready to help out with any family gatherings. She worked at Dickies, Sheppard’s and Memorial Hospital in Uvalde. She enjoyed traveling and even visited Europe in her younger years.  Her love for photography, which she gained from her Uncle Victor preserved a lot of the family’s memories. Tia Fila was an amazing seamstress and many remember, with deep appreciation, the many beautiful clothes that she made. We wish to thank the caregivers at Amistad Home that treated her like family and truly loved her, they meant so much to her. She was loved by many whose memory will remain forever in our hearts.

A rosary will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at Uvalde Catholic Cemetery.
