With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Maxine Scott, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2026, at Metropolitan Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 83.

Maxine was born on July 30, 1942, in Uvalde, Texas, to Oliver and Winnie Everett. She grew up in the community she loved and married the love of her life, Clifford Joe Scott, on December 27, 1958. During Joe’s service in the United States Army, they spent time living in Hawaii before returning to Texas, where they made their homes in Uvalde, Castroville, San Antonio, and later Campwood. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and lifelong friendships.

Family was the center of Maxine’s world. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who never missed an opportunity to support those she loved. Whether helping her son John with his business, attending her granddaughter Madeleine’s dance performances and choir concerts, cheering on her grandson Everett at football games, Boy Scouts, and college events, or making family vacations even more special, Maxine found her greatest joy simply by being present.

She especially treasured the annual Everett Family Reunion each Fourth of July. Her property along the Nueces River was one of her favorite places, where she welcomed family, made cherished memories, and enjoyed collecting her beloved “holy river rocks.”

Maxine dedicated more than 30 years to Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, advancing from switchboard operator to District Manager before retiring. She later returned as a Sales Trainer, sharing her experience with employees throughout Texas.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Uvalde and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafting. In recent years, she lovingly created jeweled crosses that she shared with family and friends. She was also a proud member of the “Hags,” a spirited group known for bringing laughter and entertainment to communities throughout the Uvalde area.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Jeff Scott and wife Monica of Houston, Texas, and John Scott and wife Cindi of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Madeleine Scott of Orlando, Florida, and Everett Scott of Houston, Texas; and her sister, Nadine Welch of Uvalde, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Scott; her parents, Oliver and Winnie Everett; her sister, Yvonne Mason; and her brother, James Everett.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Funeral Home in Uvalde. Burial will follow at Uvalde Cemetery, with a luncheon afterward at First Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Everett, Dale Hoffman, James Mason, Kenny Mason, Dale Mason, Randy Hicks Jr., Everett Scott, and Larry Wilde.

Maxine will be remembered for her unwavering love, generous heart, joyful spirit, and the countless ways she made others feel welcomed and loved. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will live on through her family, her faith, and the many lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Dementia Society of America in Maxine’s honor.
