Mary O. Manry

Mary Estelle Owen Manry, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 30, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 104. She was a pillar of her community and church, touching countless lives. Mary was loved and admired by so many in and around Uvalde and beyond.

Born in Del Rio, TX, to Clifford and Louise (Armistead) Owen on January 30, 1922, Mary graduated from Del Rio High School in 1939, then attended Sul Ross State Teacher’s College in Alpine, TX.

After Pearl Harbor and the start of World War II, instead of finishing college, she started working in Del Rio, TX for attorneys Wallace and Thurmond.

Mary then met L.B. Manry Jr. from Houston in 1942. He was a finance officer at Eagle Pass Army Airfield. They fell deeply in love and were married on November 21, 1943, at First Baptist Church in Del Rio. After his discharge from the Army, L.B. returned to banking, and they lived in Houston, then Livingston, TX.

Their son, Martin Wayne Manry, was born in 1950, and shortly after, they moved to Alvin. They next moved to Uvalde in 1961, where she spent the rest of her life.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Louise; her husband L.B., son Marty; her sister Marjory Kirchiner; and her daughter-in-law Vivian D Manry, all of Uvalde.

She is survived by her grandson Martin B. Manry, his wife Elvira, and her great-grandchildren, Lily and Maddie Manry.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church Uvalde on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Blaine Bennett, William Edwards, James Carnes, Russell Brown, Johnny Moreno, Russel Ellinger and Cody Smith. Honorary Pallbearer: John Miller Meyer.
