Louise Burks Frizzell

Mary Louise Burks Frizzell passed away on 9/12/26 in Uvalde after a very long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in San Antonio, Texas to Hazel Louise Meyers and Jack Eugene Burks, Jr. on 11/8/43. She and her twin sister, Jean, were later adopted by Lillie Secrest and Jack Burks.

Lou always loved dancing. In high school, she and her friends spent most summer evenings dancing the night away at Garner Park. As an adult she spent many evenings dancing to Country & Western music - her favorite. She took pride in her yard, doing all of the work herself. Bowling introduced her to lifelong friends and she traveled across the country to participate in several tournaments. Her teams didn’t always win but they had lots of fun trying. She was a very good cook and there were many family gatherings to keep her busy in the kitchen. In her later years she was usually in the company of her closest friends: Winnie Bee Hopper, Shirley Merritt, and Kay Scott.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Hazel Louise Burks, Jack Eugene Burks, Jr., Lillie Burks Broussard, and Jack Burks; also by her sister and best friend: Martha Jean Burks Parsons.

She is survived by her daughters Paula Lee and Diana O’Connor and husband, Rodney, Siblings Carla Burks-Hoppie and Marty Burks. Grandchildren Desiree Martin and husband, Braden, Meghann Lee, Delany Samples, Andrew O’Connor and wife, Erica. Great grandchildren, Kynlee, Braden, Olivia, and Amelia Martin, Noel Ramon and Mehemiah Alcantar. Nieces and nephews Hoytt Parsons, Tina Stone and husband, Michael, Gina Parsons-Sanchez and husband, Gilbert, Jeff Parsons and wife, Amanda, Kurtis Hoppie, and Chris Hoppie. Multiple great nieces and nephews. Cousins Winnie Bee Hopper and Kay Scott.

Lou had amazing caregivers who made her last years the best they could possibly be. The staff at The Veranda and Uvalde Hospice provided excellent, compassionate care. Special thanks to Tru Hiatt, Marta Ruiz, Ivy De La Garza and Melly Torres
