Mary Berry

September 8, 1938 — September 26, 2025

On the morning of September 26, 2025, Mary Berry of Uvalde Texas, at the age of 87, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Vattman, Texas, on September 8, 1938, she was the third oldest of 10 children and raised in a modest, faith-filled, hard-working family. She learned at a young age the importance of family, faith, and service through losing her mother at a young age, being raised by her father, siblings, and extended family members. She attended Vattman grade school and later attended Incarnate Word High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. She continued the gift of music her mother had and played piano since age 5 and competed in High School. Throughout her life she would often bring her siblings together to sing, play music, and minister to others at weddings, funerals, Masses, and family gatherings. She helped instill a love of music in them and so many others. Upon graduation she went to work at Kleberg Bank in Kingsville, Texas. She met the love of her life, Dean Berry, at her sister’s wedding reception in Robstown in 1958, married in 1959 and moved to Robstown then to Kingsville where they started their family. Mary, Dean, and their son Webb moved to Uvalde around 1970 where they grew their family by two daughters, Dee Dee and Deborah. Many knew Mary through her job at First Savings & Loan, where she helped many customers who would later become lifelong friends. She joined the Sacred Heart Choir as the organist was leaving and she volunteered to fill the position and became the 9:30 choir organist at Sacred Heart Church for nearly 50 years, where she also made many life-long friends. Mary was also a member of the Riders of the Purple Sage for years as a backup singer. After her job at First Savings, she worked at Uvalde Memorial Hospital in the business office until retiring in 2007. Throughout her careers in Uvalde she met and helped many people in the community and had a heart for those who needed help. After retirement from Uvalde Memorial Hospital, Mary spent her years enjoying grandkids, supporting family in any way she could, including caring for her husband until his passing. She continued playing the organ/piano for masses, weddings, funerals, family gatherings, and enjoyed showing love to others through her amazing cooking abilities, sharing her musical talents through singing, playing, and teaching grandchildren the joy of music. She also loved supporting her grandchildren in their endeavors and activities by traveling to their sports events, parties, and helping her children any time they needed. Mary also became a leader in the local pro-life movement.

Her legacy is having lived a life full of Love and dedication to Family, Love of God, Generosity, Service to others, Selflessness, Love of Music, fearlessly standing for what she believed in and doing it with Love. She was a firm believer in truth and service. Her proudest accomplishments are serving God through her musical talents, Loving and growing her Family, and her Faith and love of God.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Dean Berry, daughters Angela Marie and Dee Dee, as well as her siblings Joe Kuntscher and Juliane Kuntscher and parents Frank Kuntscher and Margaret Kuntscher.

She is survived by son Webb Berry of Uvalde, Daughter Deborah Kistler (Neal Kistler) of LaVernia and her grandchildren, Justin, Cheyenne (Micah), Grace, Claire, Zachary, JD, Matthew and great-grandson Luka, siblings Eileen (Woodrow) Riedel of Bay City, Jeannine (Jim) Weisman of Bedford, Sr. Michelle Kuntscher of Corpus Christi, Frank (Kathy) Kuntscher of Houston, Vic Kuntscher of Kingsville, Judy (Terry) Temple of Spring Branch, and Tom (Antionette) Remlinger of Vallejo, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
