Sabinal

Marilyn Joy (McQuinn) Riggs of Sabinal, Texas passed away at Medina Regional Hospital on January 17th, 2022 at age 76 after her courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 29, 1945 in San Antonio Texas to George McQuinn and Ann Lee Farr.

She married the love of her life Billy Riggs on February 2, 1965 in Mexico and they remained devoted to each other for 56 years.  Together they raised two sons and established a family business.

Marilyn was so involved with her family that she became a volunteer to many school and school sporting events as her boys were growing up. She was a member of Sabinal VFD Women’s Auxiliary for as long as it was active. She served as an elections clerk for many years and enjoyed getting to see all her friends from the community. Marilyn became an adult Girl Scout member to help with the troop that her granddaughter belonged to.  She enjoyed teaching the girls using her skills in cooking, sewing and arts and crafts and her love of nature made the camping trips more enjoyable for the troop. She also volunteered with the Uvalde Hospice until she became ill.  She loved her time volunteering because she made so many memories and met some of her very best friends.

You could always find Marilyn in her garden or working on her flower beds.  She loved the outdoors and traveling and took many camping trips so she could enjoy both.  She was a voracious reader and passed that love on to her family.  Some of her other hobbies were sewing and cooking and she was known to feed entire groups of her sons’ friends whenever they dropped by. She never knew a stranger and treated everyone as family.

Marilyn’s kindness, beauty and smile will be missed by many; especially the family she leaves behind.  She is survived by her husband Billy Riggs, son Bill Brandon and wife Sylvia all of Sabinal, Texas. George Brian and wife Erin of Billings, Montana. Granddaughter Lane Riggs of Clemson, South Carolina and her sister Diane Freeman of Atlanta, Georgia.

Cremation is under the direction of REK. As per Marilyn’s request there will be a private family service later in the spring.
