Maria Elena Silva

Maria Elena Silva, 75, of Uvalde passed away on August 18, 2026, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.

She was born on February 10, 1951, in Sabinal, Texas to Elisa (Reyes) Silva and Manuel Campos Silva.

She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She retired from Uvalde CISD, where she worked in the cafeteria, and was also a proud member of the American Legion. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family during the holidays, making cherished memories surrounded by those she loved.

She is survived by her son, Rene Silva Aguilar and wife, Vicki Bingham Aguilar of Uvalde; two sisters, Elisa Silva Arreola of San Antonio and Yolanda Silva Serna of Houston; brother, Roberto Polanco of Uvalde; five grandchildren, Krystalle Rose Aguilar, Agustin Alonzo Aguilar, Alex Andrew Aguilar, Anthony Angel Aguilar, and Kalleigh Dawn Aguilar; great grandchildren, Krystalen Garcia, Adrian Aguilar, Lydia Aguilar, Petrolino Molina, Olivia Aguilar, AJ Aguilar, Alarik Aguilar, Jamie Aguilar, Angelica Aguilar, Wyatt Aguilar, Erika Lynn Hopkins, and Brixly Steele.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Riojas; son, Alberto Riojas; brother, Jesus Silva; and grandmother, San Juana Reyes.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Agustin Aguilar, Roberto Polanco, Anthony Aguilar, AJ Aguilar, Adrian Aguilar, Alex Aguilar, and Rene Silva Aguilar.
