Maria De La Luz Del Toro 74, of Uvalde, formerly of her home-town of La Pryor, passed away on January 8, 2026, at Mesa Vista Health Center in San Antonio, Texas.
She was born on February 20, 1951, in Uvalde, Texas, to Petra Flores Del Toro and Luis F. Del Toro, Jr. She was named after her Great Grandmother on her mother’s side of the family, Maria De La Luz Ortegon, who was born in 1851, exactly 100 years before Maria was born.
Maria was raised in La Pryor, Texas. She attended the La Pryor Schools and graduated from La Pryor High School on May 1969. She attended and graduated from Southwest Texas Jr. College in Uvalde on May 1971, and went on to attend Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She enjoyed a career in the medical field working at the Uvalde Memorial Hospital and working for several local doctors. Maria’s favorite pass time included cooking, collecting recipes, sewing and watching novelas on TV.
She is survived by two sisters, Marta Del Toro of Austin, Texas and Blanca E. Saldivar and husband, Rogelio, of La Pryor, Texas; nephew, Greg Del Toro and wife, Ashley and great nephew, Emanuel Del Toro; nephew, Erik Del Toro and wife, Rosario and great nieces, Alina Del Toro, Aliya Del Toro and Eliana Del Toro and great nephew, Erik Luis Del Toro; sister-in-law, Maria Luisa Del Toro all of La Pryor, Texas, and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Margarita “Maggie” Del Toro and two brothers, Juan Luis Del Toro and Javier Del Toro.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 3:00pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm, at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in La Pryor, Texas. Interment will follow at La Pryor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Greg Del Toro, Erik Del Toro, Rogelio Saldivar, Serapio “Sonny” Flores, Roberto “Bobby” Flores, and Robert Fernandes.
