Louis “Doodie” George Dicke Jr., age 80, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 16, 2025, surrounded by love in his home.
Born on Jan. 7, 1945, in Sabinal, Texas, he lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to God and family on the farm in Knippa. After a 35-year career with Southwestern Bell, he retired to farm/ranch full-time on the family farm where he was born and raised.
Louis was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ finding strength and guidance in God’s Word. He lived out his faith daily through a servant’s heart. Whether through prayer, encouragement, or quiet acts of love.
Family was a treasured gift to Louis. He was a loving husband, Daddy, PawPaw, and Great-PawPaw, always placing others before himself. Louis leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of faith that will continue through his family for generations.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Dicke Sr., and Flora Mueller Dicke, his brother Bill Dicke, and his sister Emma Logan. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lynda Bates Dicke, daughters Dr. Cheryl (Harry) Rabe, Shannon (Bart) Fincke and Shelbi (Andy) Hentschke. Grandchildren Derek (Erica) Rabe, Denise (Zac) Reavis, Lexie (Taven) Hale, Kasey Hentschke and Tyler Hentschke. Great-grandchildren Blanton Rabe, Aubrey, Wes and Carson Reavis, and Blair Hale. He is also survived by cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Though we grieve, we do so with hope, knowing that Louis has finished the race, kept the faith, and now rests in the eternal peace promised by our Savior (2 Timothy 4:7).
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 26 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held on Dec. 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, Devine, Texas. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Knippa Cemetery.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21)
