Louis Joseph Azopardi of Wimberley, formerly of Sabinal, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 7, 2025, at the age of 83.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Louis was born on February 15, 1942, in Sabinal, Texas, to Louis Joseph Azopardi, Sr. and Willa Gray Johnson.
Louis attended Sabinal public schools and played football and tennis in high school.
He married the love of his life, Tommie Lee Oliphant, at Sabinal Methodist Church on October 1, 1960. The next year they had a son, Tommy, and Louis attended Southwest Texas State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
Louis and his family moved to Lampasas, Texas where he began what would be a lifetime of leadership in the auto parts industry. Louis and Tommie Lee shared many wonderful years in Lampasas and later in Austin before her passing in 2003.
Being with his family was his joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
He is survived by his son, Tommy J. Azopardi and wife Molly of Wimberley; grandchildren, Jarrod M. Azopardi and wife Lauren of Fort Worth, and Megan M. Azopardi of Wimberley; great-grandson, Thomas J. Peveto of Wimberley; sister, Jimmie Dee O’Boyle; sister-in-law, Lou Woodward and husband Darrel; nieces, Rene Hedeman and husband Keith, Connie Marie Meyer and husband Mason; nephews, Wayne Matthews and wife Starr, and Benny Lee Azopardi Jr. and wife Jennifer; along with numerous extended family and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Tommie Lee (Oliphant) Azopardi; his parents, Willa Gray and Louis Joseph Azopardi; his brother, Benny Lee Azopardi Sr.; and his wife Korita; and his in-laws, Tommy and Maurine Oliphant.
Services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal Texas, with Chaplain Michael Bingaman officiating. Interment will follow at Sabinal Cemetery, where Louis will be laid to rest beside his wife.
Pallbearers will be Jarrod Azopardi, Darrel Woodward, Wayne Matthews, Keith Hedeman, Daniel Becka and Danny Pish. Eddie Mathis will be an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, South Texas Council, 1 Retama Parkway, Selma, TX 78154.
Louis will be remembered for his kind heart, deep love for his family and always quick to tell a joke. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
