Joy Kirk

Joy Inez Gibson Kirk, of Boerne, Texas, formerly of Crystal City, Texas, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on December 23, 1939 in Carrizo Springs to DeRoyce and Ruth Owen Gibson.

She married Michael Lynn Kirk on January 29, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Joy graduated from Carrizo Springs High School in 1958. Following high school, she attended business school in San Antonio and was a hostess at the Embassy Suites in the 1980’s. Joy made her home in Dimmit County, where she enjoyed playing bridge with close friends, doting on her family and entertaining anyone that entered her home. She delighted in being with her nieces and nephews. Each of them has special memories of spending the night with her, playing poker, blackjack or thousand and down and riding around in her purple Cadillac.

She had a gift for hosting a gathering, whether it was bridge club, a family holiday, an impromptu dinner or game of dominoes. Joy always had stuffed jalapenos, a chocolate sheet cake, banana nut bread or a delicious pie ready for any guest that might drop by to visit. She was often in the kitchen in the middle of the night baking a cake to take to someone as a thank you or making scalloped potatoes to take to the church.

Joy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrizo Springs and served on the Hospitality Committee.

Joy is survived by her sister, Laura “Sissy” Burns of Spring Branch, brothers Carroll Gibson and wife, Susan, of Miles, and James Gibson and wife, Esther, of Victoria, sister-in-law Patsy Perschbacher of Amarillo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joy is preceded in death by her husband, Mike, her parents, DeRoyce and Ruth Gibson, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cecil and Mildred Kirk, her brothers-in-law, Fred Burns and Dee Perschbacher, nephew Ryon Perschbacher, and nephew-in-law Fabian Dominguez.

At Joy’s request, no service will take place. Her remains will be interred in her husband’s burial plot at Hillcrest Cemetery in Uvalde TX.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
