Jose A. Aviles of Uvalde passed away at his residence at the age of 97. He was born on March 22, 1924, in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Miguel and Isabel (Arriaga) Aviles.
He married Julia Oliver on December 21, 1952, in Uvalde, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years of Uvalde; daughters, Dolores Aviles, STJ, of Uvalde, Texas, Ana Maria Decious and husband Paul of Jacksonville, Texas and Mary I. Aviles of Daingerfield, Texas; son, John O. Aviles, and wife Patricia of Uvalde; grandchildren, Mike Aviles II, Steven Aviles, Sara M. Aviles, John O. Aviles, Jr., Teresa I. Aviles, Ana Laura Aviles and Jacob Aviles; great grandchildren, Kendra Aviles, Mya Aviles, Rynee Aviles, Nathan Aviles, Anyesia Aviles and Melody L. Aviles; great-great grandchildren, Julia Fly, Lillian Fly, Torii Aviles-Busby and Korii Aviles-Busby.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons, Fr. Jose A. Aviles and Mike O. Aviles, brothers, Reynold Aviles, Miguel Aviles Jr., Leopoldo Aviles; sisters, Celia Sifuentes, Ester Aviles, Refugia Barrera and Ofelia Gonzales.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Uvalde Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Aviles, Jr., Alejandro Gonzales, Alfredo Gonzales, Miguel Aviles II, Jorge Romero, Jimmy Fly, Ernesto Santos Jr., and Roy Barrera.
