Mr. Jose B. Amaya Sr. of Sabinal, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019 in Marion, Illinois at the age of 95.
Mr. Amaya was born on March 15, 1924 in Utopia, Texas to Demetrio and Juanita (Barbosa) Amaya. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Henrietta Ramirez on October 4, 1959 in Stamford, Texas.
Mr. Amaya is survived by his wife of 59 years, Henrietta Amaya of Sabinal; daughter, Yolanda Amaya and companion Provat Gupta of Glendale, California; two sons, Jose Amaya Jr. and wife Rosa of Aurora, Illinois and Richard Amaya and wife Minerva of Bakersfield, California; sister, Dominga Benitez of Livermore, California; eight grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ray Amaya and James Amaya, parents, two sisters, Emma Amaya and Isabel A. Puente, seven brothers, Maximo Amaya, Isidro Amaya, Pablo Amaya, Juan Amaya, Demetrio Amaya, Jr. Pablo Amaya and Vicente Amaya.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sabinal with interment to follow at St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jermaine Amaya, Provat Amaya, Jr.,Isaiah Amaya, Andrew Amaya, Xavier Amaya and Giovanni Amaya. Honorary pallbearer LeeRoy Amaya and Frank Amaya.
