John M. “Jack” Sullivan passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 23, 1938, to John and Charlotte Sullivan and raised in Topsfield, Massachusetts, where he developed the stoicism, pragmatism, and strong work ethic that guided his life.
As a teenager, he was fortunate to find “his person” and in October 1960, Jack married his high school sweetheart, Karen Knowlton, beginning a 65-year marriage marked by love, partnership, and unwavering support. He proudly served in the National Guard and Air Force Reserve and volunteered his time as a firefighter and EMT. Jack spent his career with the Reading Municipal Light Department, earning a reputation for integrity and reliability.
After his retirement, Jack and Karen took on their next chapter with a move to Texas. They found immense joy in the farming and hunting lifestyle and were warmly embraced by the Uvalde and Knippa communities.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Sullivan; his children Robert Sullivan (Leslie), John Sullivan (Jill), and Jill Sullivan Greer; grandchildren Daniel Sullivan (Mollie), Kelly Hester (Nicholas), Alana Sullivan, Anne Greer, Caroline Greer and John Connor Greer; and great grandchildren Liam, Jackson and Oliver Sullivan and Benjamin, Olivia and Sienna Hester.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 19 at 10am at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with burial at Knippa Cemetary and a reception to follow at the First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
Jack will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the quiet strength with which he lived life.
