Joel Ortiz Quijano of La Pryor passed away on June 11, 2020 at Westover Hills Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 80. He was born on April 20, 1940 in La Pryor to Eleno Santos and Isidora (Ortiz) Quijano
He married Francisca Valdez in La Pryor on May 4, 1959.
Joel loved to socialize with friends and family. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his daughters, Marina Rios, Victoria Quijano and Juanita Vasquez and husband, Leonard all of La Pryor; sons, Jesse Quijano and wife, Irma, Martin Quijano and wife, Monica, Marcos Quijano, Jose Quijano, Joel Quijano, Jr. and wife, Elsa all of La Pryor and Roberto Victorino and wife, Alma of Uvalde; sisters, Margarita Salazar, Elvira Alejandro and husband, Gustavo, Francisca Tellez all of La Pryor and Maria Lara and husband, Juan of Mission; brother, Jesus Quijano and wife, Rosa of La Pryor; 29 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughters, Viviana Quijano and Carmen Quijano; grandsons, John Thomas Vasquez and Joshua Ray Ortegon; great granddaughter, Jaylssa R. Ortegon; brother, Refugio Quijano and son in law, Ramon Rios.
Visitation will begin on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A rosary will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary
Pallbearers will be Thomas Camacho, Martin Quijano, Jr., Robert Victorino, James Vasquez, Joel Jacinto Quijano, Abel Vasquez, Jesse Ortegon, Jr., and Jeremy Quijano. Honorary pallbearers John David Victorino, Robert Martinez and George Rodriguez.
