Joe R. Rodriguez of Sabinal passed away on June 24, 2020 at his residence at the age of 79. He was born on March 8, 1941 in Sabinal, Texas to Eduardo C. Rodriguez and Antonia L. Lopez Rodriguez.
He married Soila Leos on October 12, 1960.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years of Sabinal; children, Rebecca Rivera and husband, Oscar of Hutto, Rachel Paul of Sabinal, Joe R. Rodriguez, Jr. and his wife, Paula of Luling, son, John Edward Rodriguez and wife, Joanna of Sabinal, Cybill Gonzales and husband, Danny of Sabinal; brothers, Rogelio Rodriguez and wife, Consuelo of Sabinal and Eduardo Rodriguez, Jr. and wife, Dianna of San Antonio; sister, Estella Davis and husband, Fred of Sabinal; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also lives behind sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws.
Joe Reynol was born in Uvalde County and raised in Sabinal. He graduated from Sabinal High School in 1960. He attended SWTJC in Uvalde before being hired by Southern Pacific Railroad. Southern Pacific Railroad was merged with Union Pacific in 1996. Joe Reynol retired from Union Pacific in 2007 after working 44 years. He was known as “CatDaddy” while working with the railroad. Joe Reynol was a machine operator working all over West, South and Central Texas. He also joined the Texas National Guard in 1963 where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned the distinguished title of Master Paratrooper. He served his country a total of 12 years.
Joe Reynol was well known in the Sabinal community. He served as a Sabinal City Council member for approximately 16 years. He was also a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was also a Sabinal Little League coach when his sons were playing baseball. After raising his children in Sabinal then came along the activities for grandchildren. Joe Reynol was an avid Yellowjacket fan and he attended as many sports and academic events as possible. He especially enjoyed all types of sporting events and you could always count on Joe Reynol being in attendance. Joe Reynol took extreme pride with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joe Reynol lived a long full life with his family. There are so many great memories of family get togethers, family vacations and going to drink coffee with his friends the later years. He always enjoyed the holidays and all of the festivities never met a stranger.
The Rodriguez family would like to thank all of those that have been calling, praying and sending condolences.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 12:00 p.m, followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal, A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sabinal. Interment will follow at Sabinal Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Aguilar, Elijah Gonzales, Jonah Rodriguez, Justice Gonzales, Zachary Paul, Vance Rodriguez, Ty Caleb Rivera, and Danny Gonzales.
