Joe Emery Parker, 92, of Sabinal, Texas, passed away at his residence on January 8, 2026. Born on July 1, 1933, in Blount Springs, Alabama, he was the son of Mattie (Waiters) and Willie Henry Parker.
Joe proudly served in the military from April 17, 1951, to June 30, 1971, dedicating himself to his country with unwavering loyalty. After his service, he continued to touch lives through his faith and community involvement. He had a profound love for preaching God’s word, regularly visiting the jail and nursing home in Hondo. His ministry extended to the Philippines, where he nurtured a congregation that thrived until 2012.
A man of many passions, Joe found joy in fixing cars, cultivating a vibrant vegetable garden, and his deep appreciation for aviation. He often marveled at the beauty of flight, sharing stories of aircraft and the freedom they represented. He had a soft spot for western movies and never missed an opportunity to sing old hymns, often lifting the spirits of those around him. His unwavering encouragement and heartfelt prayers were a source of comfort and strength for many; he always stopped whatever he was doing to offer support when it was needed most.
Joe is survived by his daughters: Lee Parker and Michell Parker of Houston, Nerissa Parker of Pleasanton, and Esther Parker of Austin; son, Joseph Parker of San Antonio; two brothers, Clifford Parker of D’Hanis and LeeRoy Parker of Freeport; nephew, Clarence Parker; niece, Jessica Parker; granddaughters, Jasmine Parker, Eudora Gonzales, and Ariel Parker; grandsons, Suran Parker and Jaxon Parker; and the mother of his children, Mercelita Thornton of Converse.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. A graveside service will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
