Joe Martinez

Joe M. Martinez, “Chema” passed away peacefully on August 22, 2019 at the age of 70, surrounded by loves ones. Joe was born on January 30, 1949 in Uvalde, Texas to Jose and Elena Martinez who preceded him in death.

At an early age Joe found his talent for auto body repair and painting. Joe had a love for classic cars. He had so many friends and has been able to share in his knowledge of his special talent to so many people who have now made very successful careers for themselves.

Joe married the love of his life, Reymunda (Hidalgo) Martinez in May of 1974, who preceded him in death. Joe loved his wife unselfishly and continued his faithfulness until the end of his life.

Together they were deeply devoted to their one daughter, Jessica Harrell who is married to Kristen Harrell. Joe was a deeply caring, kind, compassionate, and above all else never ceasing in his love.  Joe was truly the best “Daddy” Jessica could have ever asked for.

Joe was extremely proud of his four grandchildren; Matthew 17, Cayleigh 16, Emily 12, and Garrett 11. Joe’s world revolved around them. He was truly the best “Papa”. They were truly the most delightful part of the last seventeen years of his life.  Each one of them was blessed by every moment they had to spend with him.

Joe was preceded in death by three siblings, brother Juan Martinez, Sr., his sisters, Maria Vasquez, and Rosa Robles all of Uvalde. Joe leaves behind three remaining siblings; sisters Hilda Martinez of Uvalde, Texas, Dora Cordova of San Antonio, Texas, and Anita Garza of Roseburg, Oregon.

Visitation will begin on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, followed by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., visitation will continue on Sunday, August 15, 2019, followed a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde, Texas.  Interment will follow at Camp Wood Cemetery.
