Jesus S. Cruz

Jesus S. Cruz, Jr., of Uvalde passed away on August 20, 2026, at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

He was born on December 8, 1948, in Zaragosa, Mexico to Florencia (Sanchez) and Jesus Cruz, Sr.

He married Soraya Rios on August 20, 1982, Uvalde, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Soraya Cruz of Uvalde; daughter, Kimberly S. Cruz and husband, Julio Nieto of San Antonio; four sisters, Janie Rodriguez and husband, Domingo, Connie Flores and husband, Raul all of Uvalde; Mary Johnson of Tennessee, and Rosa Moreno and husband, Felipe of San Antonio; three brothers, Joe Cruz of New Mexico, Armando Cruz and wife, Lupe and Mike Cruz and wife, Amelia all of Uvalde; grandchildren, Derrick Ballesteros, Jasiah Nieto, Alessia Nieto and Romeo Nieto; great grandson, Zyden Medina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pete Cruz, and three sisters in laws, Olivia Valverde, Irma Martinez, and Annie Cruz.

Pallbearers will be Armando Cruz, Joe Cruz, Mike Cruz, Mark Flores, Derrick Ballesteros and Alex Cruz.

Honorary pallbearers Jasiah Nieto and Romeo Nieto.
