Jerry Samuel Searan, 83, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025. He was born on September 27, 1941, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Floyd Crockett Searan and Madeline Marguerite Searan (Jones). Jerry was the second of four children.
A dedicated student, Jerry graduated with honors from The University of Arkansas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his professional career as a Reservoir Engineer with Exxon. His career flourished as he advanced to serve as Senior Vice-President of Wanda Petroleum, Vice-President of Marketing, at Palomar Engineers, and later as President of Ibex Energy, before retiring in 1992.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Jerry was a man of many passions. He enjoyed golf, gardening, and fishing, often sharing these moments with his family and friends. Jerry approached every project with sharp attention to detail and a methodical mindset, whether it involved carpentry, electrical work, or auto repair. He was known as a mentor and a helping hand to friends and neighbors, always ready to lend his expertise.
Jerry’s fun sense of humor, kind heart, and thoughtful nature made him beloved by many. He never forgot his humble beginnings and stood firmly for what he believed in. His quiet, genuine smile had a way of lifting others, and his protective nature made those around him feel safe and loved.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Max Rae Searan, and his nephew Christopher Searan Johnston.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Judith L. Searan; his daughter Johnna L. Butera; step-daughter Melanie Torres (Ramiro); sister Janet Searan; brother Joseph Larry Searan (Socorro); grandchildren Stefan Diehl and Jacqueline Torres; great-grandsons Carson and Cooper Diehl; nieces Linda Maria Searan, Tina Rose Searan, Gabrielle Marguerite Colbert, and Angela Michelle Searan; nephews Max Searan, Larry Hughes Miller, and Michael Rae Johnston; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Methodist Continuing Care for the genuine compassion and care they provided Jerry throughout his journey.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, located at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by services at 11:00 AM. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Honorary pallbearers include Stefan Diehl, Ron Gerdes, Ruben Martin, Tom Redd, Ramiro Torres, and Jules Videau.
Jerry will be interred at the historic Waresville Cemetery in Utopia, Texas, in a private ceremony.
Jerry Samuel Searan leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
