James S. Gonzales

James S. Gonzales, known as Jaime or Jimmy to his close friends and family, gained his wings to be with our Heavenly Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 9, 2026. Nora, his four-ever wife was by his bedside when he took his last breath.

Jaime was born in Monahans,Texas, to Delfina and Angel Gonzales. He grew up in Monahans and upon graduating from high school, he continued his education earning his degrees in education. As a lifelong learner, he shared his leadership gifts as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and an at-risk director. He ended his educational career as a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist from the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. He also worked for the Boy Scouts of America.

Jaime retired at the age of fifty-two and entered his love of helping others through his volunteer work. He volunteered his craft of Dyslexia Therapy at Robb Elementary, Sabinal ISD and D’hanis ISD for several years.

His true passion was his volunteer work for the church. It started with attending an Emmaus Walk. His love of Christ grew stronger from each Emmaus Walk he served on. These walks ultimately lead him to a greater calling by serving on the Board of the Greater Emmaus community along with becoming an active member of the Uvalde Methodist Church. Here he served as a Stephen Minister and member of the Intercessory Prayer Group.

While enjoying his Emmaus work, other members of the community called on him to serve on another ministry, He was invited to spend three days with the Brothers in White serving time at the state penitentiary in Hondo. His new found experience sent him into the world of the Prison Ministry with Kairos “God’s Special Time”. There, he could see the work of Christ bringing men to their knees to accept the free unconditional love of God. Jaime served on several Kairos Teams and also found his time devoted to leadership roles within Kairos Ministry. The Brothers in White spend three days with Kairos volunteers and transform their lives while serving towards a commitment to bring hope, faith and transformative ministry behind prison walls.

Deeply enriched by his faith, he committed to Kairos Outside. The program of Kairos Outside Prison Ministry offers support and hope to women who have been impacted by the incarceration of a loved one. This special weekend retreat is designed to support the female loved ones of men and women who are or have been incarcerated. Families of the incarcerated “do time” right along with their loved ones. Although his work was in the background usually serving as Kitchen Head Chef building a bond with the volunteers on the team. Jaime also had a deep passion for his UT Longhorns.

Jaime was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: older brother Mario Gonzales, Phillip “Lee Gonzales, Sisters, Joyce “Angie” Nunez, Irma “Bonnie “ Sotelo and his stepdaughter, Regina Santos Aviles.

Survived by: wife, Nora Ann Gonzales, stepson, Johnnie (Adriene) Santos III, granddaughters: Isis Luna Santos & Amaya Paz Santos of San Antonio, son-in-law, Adrian Aviles and grandson, Axel Valentin Aviles all of Uvalde.
