Jack Ayers

Jack Edwin Ayers Jr. of Uvalde passed away on October 3, 2019 in Uvalde at the age of 79.  He was born on July 18, 1940 in Asherton, Texas to Jack Edwin Ayers Sr. and Dovie Velma Selby.

He married Shirley Margaret Smith on November 25, 1987 in Eagle Pass. Jack served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 2 years and worked most of his life in the oil field.  He started his own oil company in 1990. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Uvalde.  Jack loved to tinker with his 1920 Model T Ford; it was his pride and joy. He was an outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish and loved to bring home lost puppies and blame his wife for keeping them.  No flea market was safe from him nor garage sale, he enjoyed talking and visiting with the vendors.  Jack enjoyed making people laugh, but most of all; he was a loving caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather

He is survived by his wife of 31 years of Uvalde; sons, Jeff Ayers and wife, Becky Ayers of  Del Rio, Darryl Shuler and wife,  Elena of Marshal; and Erickson B. Shuler and wife, Krista; brother, Conroy Ayers  and wife, Norene; grandchildren, Karen Vasquez and husband Arturo Vasquez, Holly Gardner and husband Cody Gardner, Stephanie Ayers, Jennifer Perez and husband, Roberto Perez, Westly Lenertz, Simon Shuler, and Erickson H. Shuler; great grandchildren, Taylor Ahoyt, Tanner Ahoyt, Damian Vasquez, Rene Vasquez, Jared Gardner, Gage Gardner, Tate Gardner, Robert Perez, Max Perez, Louis Perez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Wayne Ayers and his first wife, Vivian Mae Ayers.

Visitation will begin on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.  Interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Crystal City.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Ayers, Darryl Shuler, Erickson B. Shuler, Westley Lenertz, Taylor Ahoyt, Tanner Ahoyt.

Memorial donations may be made to Uvalde Memorial Hospital Hospice and The American Cancer Society.
